An authentic Raghurajpur Pattachitra asks for time before it asks for admiration. The canvas alone takes five to seven days: cotton cloth is bonded in layers with tamarind-seed gum, coated with chalk paste, dried, and burnished by hand until it becomes smooth and durable. Its colours are traditionally made from natural sources - powdered conch shell for white, lamp soot for black, and minerals or plant-derived materials for red, yellow, blue and green. Then comes the most demanding stage: intricate freehand lines, storytelling figures and patterned borders. Gift this not as décor, but as days of human patience, nature-made colour and an art tradition kept alive by Raghurajpur’s artisan families.
